Galata Eksport was established in 1988 in Istanbul, Turkey to supply certain high quality products such as carpets, kelims, leather garments, copper and artifacts to the international market. Galata Eksport has experienced the highest competition of the Grand Bazaar, almost 15 000 shops in a very small area, we survived, developed, expanded into the international market through high quality service and products. The company opened branches in RSA in partnership,

in Johannesburg , Pretoria and Cape Town, gradually settled in the market. In 1991 Galata Eksport opened its own company in SA as Galata Eksport Chain CC. Since then, Galata Eksport has grown and expanded, and now has 50 % share of the market. There are now 5 branches, Head Office, with 9 branches, which makes it the largest chain in Persian Oriental Carpets in South Africa, providing high quality standard products at very reasonable cost directly to customers in the 11 official languages of South Africa.

Well known decorative pieces, Persian Gabbeh Carpets; Karachi Bokharas; large selection of Afghan carpets as well as many others. We import the best quality goods directly from source at the best prices available at origin. Bargains are extended to our customers in respect of the prices charged. GOOD QUALITY CARPET OR NOT? : :Top . : .

Dear prospective customer, to differentiate good quality carpets from lower grade carpets is not as complicated as you think:

* Knotting must be fine and regular. Please look at the back of the carpet. The design will be clearly visible on the back as well as front, plus you can see if there is damage or repairs.

* Changes of color, in Tribal, Nomadic carpets slight shadings are normal, but in master workshop,
it is not acceptable.

* Edges curled under on many tightly woven carpets, serious but correctable. Don’t purchase until the curl is rectified.

* Pile material badly clipped or not regular! Reduces value!

* Bleeding colors! Bad stains on the piles! Reduces value drastically! Especially pet’s urine.

* Damaged sides and ends not secured, no tassels, Do not purchase until properly secured!

* Moth damage, holes in rug, reduces value drastically!

* Crooked, badly repaired, misshapen carpets, shape is not almost equal, threadbare, badly worn. Reduces value drastically!

* Most important check: Carpet must lay straight on a flat and even surface, no wrinkles or ridges! If you are not sure, please close your eyes, run your hand across the surface in order to detect any bumps or wrong napping not visible to the eye. Minor unevenness is acceptable in nomadic and village rugs, in Master workshop it is not acceptable. Reduces value drastically!

THE WASHING AND CARE OF THE CARPET

A dirty or stained carpet should be washed and cleaned professionally. A carpet naturally collects dust when laid on the floor for a long time. Therefore it should be frequently vacuum cleaned with the pile. In spite of this, when laid on the floor over a long period of time, dust may collect at the bottom of its knots. Resultantly, the carpet should be laid on the floor face down for several days in each year and be walked on frequently. This action causes the dust accumulated at the bottom of the knots to fall off. After this the carpet should be placed upward again and vacuum cleaned with the pile.

MIXTURE WITH WHICH TO WASH OUR CARPETS

¼ cup white vinegar + 1 cup clear hair shampoo

Mix with water and sponge carpet (which has been placed on the floor) with the mixture – or use a soft brush, taking care to work with the pile and not against it. Rinse off with cool water and remove all water of by means of a wet & dry vacuum cleaner. Now hang the carpet over the washing line until completely dry.

Due to the fact that removing stains may not always be easy, the carpet needs good care. A specialist should be consulted for stubborn stains.

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY : THE FOLLOWING POINTS SHOULD BE REMEMBERED FOR GOOD CARPET CARE :

During cleaning, refrain from rubbing the carpet knots in the reverse direction.

- NEVER use any chemicals, including ammonia, to clean SILK carpets.

- SOME HINTS TO REMOVE STAINS

- ANY ALCOHOLIC DRINK Lightly wet with warm water and use 90% alcohol to clean.

- MUD Dry well and vacuum clean.

- CHOCOLATE Use a sponge damped with ammonia to wipe off.

- SWEETS Lightly wipe with warm water.

- INK Damp sponge with a mixture of water, soap and alcohol, and wipe. Take care to prevent the cleaning mixture from dripping down to the reverse of the carpet.

- FRUIT Damp sponge with a mixture containing three (3) parts white vinegar or lemon juice and one (1) part of ammonia, and wipe.

- EGG Never use hot water. Wipe with an ammonia and water mixture. Failing that use and alcohol and water mixture.

- BLOOD Never use hot water. After cleaning the stain well with a damp sponge, wipe with cold, salty water. If unsuccessful, wipe again with pure white wine. If the stain is dry, brush it and clean with water containing a small amount of ammonia.

- MAKE-UP/ACTOR’S MAKE-UP Wipe with a sponge while the stain is damp and leave to dry. Later wipe with white wine vinegar. If unsuccessful, wipe again with a mixture of 3 parts alcohol and 1 part ammonia.

- PET URINE Wipe with a sponge while the stain is damp and leave to dry. Later wipe with white wine vinegar. If unsuccessful, wipe again with a mixture of 3 parts alcohol and 1 part ammonia.

- RED WINE Clean with white wine and wipe with water.

- PLEASE NOTE : SHOULD YOU UNDERTAKE CLEANING OF YOUR CARPET/KELIM YOURSELF, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES THAT SHOULD OCCUR. IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT, PLEASE CONSULT US AND WE WILL HAVE YOUR CARPET/KELIM CLEANED PROFESSIONALLY.
